The Celebrity Club History
The Club has had several incarnations. For many years it had been managed on a volunteer basis by the late Arthur Voronka, a resident. Fond memories include weekly piano stylings of the late Red Mitchell. Prior to that the facility was organized by George Dick, another resident, who oversaw the installation of a major cartoon mural depicting the early days of CBC radio.
It re-opened in March 2006 after several months of renovations and an extensive refit. Donations to the Club renovations and upgrading of the sound, lighting and television were gratefully received from the RBC Foundation, Frischkorn AV, and Sight N Sound, whose contributions are recorded on a plaque, along with many individual donors and volunteers who gave so generously of their time.
The Club was co-managed on a volunteer basis by residents Nigel Napier-Andrews and Amanda Smith between 2006 and 2009.
From the summer of 2009 Bob & Dianne Van Dyke managed the club ’till 2014 when the Club closed again for redecoration and opened October 2014 managed by Club Chairman Bob Kemp and Manager Norman Hart, before handing over to PAL Toronto resident Georgia Abrahams.
Fast forward to 2018, where the club closed again for some maintenance and redecoration, and is now open Fridays and Saturdays under the watchful eyes of Dini Petty.
